Perigord black truffles often referred to as the diamonds of the kitchen have been greatly sought after by chefs and royalty alike for centuries. The Truffle Farm is no exception, a true diamond of the Otway Ranges. Located just off the Great Ocean Road between Lorne and Apollo Bay bordered by Otway National Park you will find this 88 acre masterpiece of a coastal property. Mikhiala Slade and Steve Earl, famed chef from La Bimba Restaurant and Otway Harvest have created a unique culinary paradise. This is an amazing and unique property, boasting outstanding coastal views, unlimited quality water supply and a growing business producing some of the best truffles in Australia. The MAIN DWELLING is stylish and comfortable with easy living spaces capturing the views of the surrounding gardens, hinterland and ocean. The house is a double story of cedar construction with three bedrooms, a sunroom, three bathrooms and an expansive open plan kitchen, living and dining area ideal for entertaining. The KITCHEN comprises of black granite bench tops, stainless splash back, dishwasher drawers and gas top electric oven. Two slow combustion wood heaters and a reverse cycle air conditioner keep the climate constant. A magnificent floating timber and stainless steel staircase leads you to a parents retreat complete with hydro spa, a large walk in robe and sea views. A large raised deck adjoins the house spilling from the lounge/dining area extending the space to entertain into the great outdoors one of the most gorgeous aspects of this truly unique place. From the deck you will find a stone paved BBQ area with pergola surrounded by extensive gardens, a long expanse of lawn leading to views of the great southern ocean. A two bed room SELF-CONTAINED COTTAGE is adjacent to the main dwelling, perfect for visiting friends and family. The GARDEN is filled with exotics, bulbs and native plantations and established ornamental trees planted over three decades ago. The lawn rolls out before you and leads to a hidden pathway to the waterfall, with stone paths, bridges and landings etched into the landscape. Take one of these paths and you will discover fern gullies eventually arriving at a viewing platform and picnic area with clean clear pools, a perfect retreat on a hot summers day. The TRUFFIERE consists of about a hectare of around 200 Oak Trees inoculated with Tuber Melanosporum (Perinord Black Truffle) back in 2001. The Truffiere has produced black truffles for the past seven winters, producing 30 kg last year and increasing output each season, doubling in the last four years. Local Australian Truffles are in great demand and a large clientele base exists eager to snap up these delights on mass every season. The FARM features 36 hectares (88 acres) of clean, rolling pasture currently stocking 45 head of cattle. There are two titles, 9 separate paddocks with a laneway system complete with a holding paddock. The farm has had no pesticides or chemical fertilizers used since the owners has been improving the soil though organic methods using rotational grazing and the sowing of clover and rye pasture producing amazing results. There is reticulated WATER to the orchard, house garden and vegetable/berry patch. The Berry patch produces raspberries strawberries, thornless blackberries, currants and gooseberries. Various herbs and vegetables are planted on and around the green house. The orchard boasts approx. 20 established fruit trees, including pears, 3 types, apples, 6 types, lemons, 2 types, French plums, 3 types, quince, walnut, persimmon and kiwi. Around every corner you find evidence of a chef/owner be it the heirloom vegetable seedlings in the greenhouse or the unusual variety of culinary herbs in the herb garden. Rainwater storage tanks with holding capacity of 81,000 litres supply the cottage and main dwelling, 4 (3 spring fed) dams and 2 creeks along with reticulated rain and bore water send supply through to paddock troughs. Other features include, Cattle yards, loading ramp, race and crush, 3 bay hay shed, a 40 metre bore with electric bore pump, horse menage complete with all-weather horse ring tack area/shed. There is a piggery, a chicken shed, greenhouse, and a large 20m x 6m lock up machinery shed with workbench, shelving and 3 phase power supply.
