‘Tis the season to get festive! With Christmas fast approaching, it’s time to put up the Christmas tree, hang the fairy lights and get into the spirit of the holidays. But decorating your home doesn’t have to be expensive. With a bit of creativity and these Christmas hacks, you can enjoy the festive spirit at a fraction of the cost.
Here are some easy Christmas hacks that will bring some of the season’s cheer into your home without breaking the bank.
Fresh cuttings from your garden or even from your Christmas tree can act as a beautiful centrepiece when placed in a vase or vessel of your choosing. Test out your floristry skills and make an arrangement with what you can find in the garden (or if you’re sneaky, with what is hanging over the neighbour’s fence!).
Give an otherwise plain set of glassware a bit of Christmassy fun with a touch of paint and glitter! Simply dip or spray the handles in paint and then pour glitter on top to set. Just be sure not to put the paint where your mouth will touch – it will spoil the taste of your eggnog! This trick can also be used to spruce up old wine bottles to turn them into festive vases.
Have a crafternoon with the kids and help them to create their very own Santa sacks using pillowcases, paint, textas and glitter. You can use offcuts of other fabrics and glue if you’re feeling extra crafty!
Decor you can eat
If baking up a storm in the kitchen is your forte, make edible decorations that are both delicious and beautiful! Cut holes in gingerbread men before baking, then string them together to make the tastiest bunting you ever saw.
Deck the doors with plants and nature
Your backyard is a treasure trove of potential Christmas ornaments! Tie ribbons onto pinecones and hang them from door handles, or weave leaves and flowers into a rustic wreath.
Let your imagination run wild this Christmas and get creative. Not only will you save money but the decorations will feel and look that extra bit special! Check out a few of these ideas and how to DIY at home on our Pinterest Board, just for you.
